Please create your profile on our portal in order to submit your housing request.
• Only the tenant's private e-mail address should be used to register (not the one assigned to you by your university or school).
• Your ID or your passport is required during the booking process (document to be scanned and downloaded).
• Once an offer is extended no change of name will be permitted.
Housing situation
The general current housing situation is that of a shortage of student accommodation in the Lausanne region. As regards to the FMEL (Fondation Maison pour étudiants Lausanne) and despite the fact that its housing stock has increased considerably over the years, rising from 1,300 in 2013 to some 4,000 housing units in 2023, the offer cannot fully meet the strong demand.
This problem is accentuated on one hand by the fact that only a small part of the accommodation becomes available each year (an allocated accommodation can be kept for a 3-year lease) and on the other hand, because the UNIL-EPFL-FMEL agreement guarantees a quota of 460 accommodation units in order to ensure the reciprocity of exchange agreements which concern some of the people who join us from different universities, people who come from Swiss-Germany, as well as to the beneficiaries of excellence scholarships. These accommodations are therefore not available via the FMEL portal.
For its part, the FMEL is continuing its efforts by creating a building on the future Campus Santé that will be offering 776 additional beds by the start of the 2026 school year.

The FMEL owns and operates over 3,300 furnished rooms and studios for students of the University of Lausanne, EPFL and HES Vaud on and around the Lausanne campus.
It is not possible to rent a whole flatshare together with friends. FMEL rents only individual accommodation.
Enrolment obligatory
To benefit from a room at the FMEL, you will need a certificate of enrolment from a university (listed on our website) for the current semester or proof of enrolment. This document must be downloaded once an offer has been sent to you.
If your lease is officially signed and you only provided proof of registration when you received the offer of accommodation, you will receive a reminder inviting you to upload your official registration no later than 2 months after the start of your lease.
If you are not eligible for a room at the FMEL, your reservation will be cancelled. For more information, please consult our terms and conditions at fmel.ch.

Please be advised that the next room booking session will be for a lease start in January 2025, barring unforeseen cancellations.
Please note that your registration on the waiting list does not automatically guarantee the allocation of accommodation by the FMEL.
